Launched by
Project Five , 2009 was the year Australia saw its first ever auction dedicated solely to contemporary street art. It was curated and co-presented by
AMBUSH Gallery and
Cockle Bay Wharf .
Volume 1 was a 3 day public live painting event followed by an intense bidding war at the auction hosted by
Darling Park . It hit the right note igniting curiosity and delight from Sydney's public and
aMBUSH Gallery discovered unexplored potential for the development of contemporary Australian street art. The event also promoted the legitimacy of street art and dissolved the barriers between artist and audience.
Roll on 2014 and Project 5 is presenting
Volume 6, but not before picking up an
Australia Council National AbaF Award in the category of Young and Emerging Artists in 2011. Attracting over 50,000 attendees and over $1.5 million in national and metropolitan press over the first four volumes, all proceeds from the last 5 auctions are dedicated to the Information and Cultural Exchange's (ICE) digital arts program.
Now established as Australia's longest running contemporary street art project,
Volume 6 will bring together 4 of the freshest talents in Australian and New Zealand street art from the studio to the outdoors and they will create tomorrow's most collectible pieces
'LIVE'.
