It's that time of the year when SALA Festival kicks off to celebrate a vivid and glorious month of art that has been carefully handpicked and curated across various venues in Adelaide and South Australia.

One artist in particular, who has caught my eye for the last year or so, is Eddie White Jr. . Known for his playful artworks that are often accompanied with short story blurbs, the celebrated illustrator and film maker has put together an art exhibition that is heavily inspired by one of his favourite bands - The Beatles.

Eddie's artwork primarily presents with drawings that are visually pleasing to the eye, but also carry a(n often) subtle message that anyone and everyone can thoroughly relate to, in some aspect. There are variations of the human anatomy, human emotions, and a touch of amusement that blankets over the artwork, which is adorned in a level of complexity that is insightful and offers the viewer with a new perspective of looking at things.

Hosted in the underground Adina Treasury Tunnels from August 16 - September 16, Strawberry Submarine will showcase a series of over 40 artworks (only 4 of which have been released via his Instagram account) that will be bursting with colour and vibrancy and have all been hand-drawn by Eddie himself. The unusual venue of choice is extremely fitting, given how The Beatles were rumoured to have used the tunnels as an escape route from their public appearance at the Adelaide Town Hall in 1964.

Strawberry Submarine will take its visitors on a kaleidoscopic journey through the work of The Beatles. You can expect to see anything and everything - from their lyrics to their lifestyle to their impact on their fans (like Eddie). Inspired by his own love for the music band, the exhibition was named after two of the most iconic elements that The Beatles are most popular for - 'strawberry fields' and 'yellow submarine' - and hopes to offer a deliciously adventurous element of surprise within the designs within the exhibition.

The opening night of this exhibition is not to be missed - running from 6pm to 10pm on August 16, patrons will have the opportunity to meet and greet with the artist himself, as they dance the night away to live Beatles music performed by rising talent Elsy Wameyo .
