There is nothing quite like nibbling at a freshly-picked strawberry, savouring the farm-fresh flavour and allowing the juice to dribble down your chin, while a goofy glazed look comes over your face and all you can think is 'yummo'!
Well, this is exactly how I feel (and no doubt, look) when picking our own strawberries at Strawberry Fields. Everything about this dainty little red fruit is more appealing…from the strawberry flesh that has such a 'shiny' look, to the more-ish taste sensation that keeps your taste buds on the top of their game and the cherry … hmmm, strawberry on top - you actually know where these delicious little specialities come from!
My grandson being taught the art of only picking the red ones
The pick-your-own (PYO) strawberry season has commenced at Strawberry Fields and luckily for us it runs from the beginning of June all the way through to November, which means we still have six months of getting outdoors and picking our very own strawbs to take home. Did you realise that these yummy little fruits are actually a winter fruit? Nope, me neither…just goes to show we can learn something 'new' every day.
The redder, the better....the strawberries, people!
The Strawberry Fields' Sunshine Coast farm can be found along the old Cobb & Co route, which is now called Laxton Road in Palmview and is on the opposite side of Aussie World, just off the Bruce Highway. Strawberry Fields has been run by the Carmichael Family since 1980 and has been open to the public for most of that time, with the picking-your-own season running from June to November.
Strawberry Fields also run fun educational tours for school groups and vacation care outings; as well as offering platter and cake options for childrens' birthday parties. The fun tractor playground for the children and lots of picnic tables around the very pretty strawberry fields ensure mum and dad can relax, while the littlies entertain themselves. Or, perhaps you're like this Granny, who climbs the tractor playground with my grandson - boy, is that exhausting 'work' - I don't think I was ever that energetic as a 'children'! And, the next day, you can't decide whether your 'stiff' back is as a result of picking strawberries or climbing playground equipment.
Strawberry Fields supply strawberries wholesale too, so whether you're local or interstate, give Strawberry Fields a call, they are very happy to supply strawberries as required - with different packs and different grades to suit.
There's nothing quite like being outdoors on a warm and balmy wintery day, picking your own strawberries and enjoying a picnic lunch in stunningly manicured gardens, whilst the children can frolic to their hearts content. 'You have a berry nice day!' is one of Strawberry Fields' slogans and perfectly sums up our fun day of picking our own strawberries.
