The finest culinary combination
Chocolate coated strawberries

I'm sure your mouth is already watering with the announcement of 'Strawberry Affair' at Yarra Valley's biggest and best chocolate shop.

From the 14th to the 31st of October you can savour the taste of the first Yarra Valley strawberries of the season dipped in couverture Belgian chocolate in milk, dark or white.

If the temptation of one of the most loved culinary combinations is too much to bare, then a day trip to the Yarra Valley is in order.

Don't like strawberries? Don't despair, there is an enormous range of hand made chocolates to buy separately or already boxed not to mention the 3 giant bowls filled with milk, dark and white Belgian chocolate chips that are free to test taste at any time.

Free tastings

If you like your chocolate with added flavour try one of the 34 different chocolate varieties from the brightly coloured Great Wall of Chocolate. Other temptations of the more than 150 varieties for sale are truffles, pastilles, mousse logs, chocolate sauce, rocky road, nougat, bush tucker chocolates, biscuits, ice cream and so much more.

Stop for breakfast, morning tea, lunch or afternoon tea at the cafe for more yummy treats. There is seating both indoors and out and children are offered equipment to play ball sports outside the cafe on the lawn to keep them occupied whilst mum and dad soak up the atmosphere.

Although it's always busy and service was a little shaky at the beginning with a few complaints being left on my article for the Hot Chocolate Festival, it seems to have had many rave reviews since and the queues move along quickly.

The latest additions to Yarra Valley Chocolaterie are perhaps the cutest of all, being two baby goats named Fudgy and Cinnamon. The goats are hand fed 3 times a day so make sure you meet them next time you're there.

Yarra Valley Chocolaterie is located at 35 Old Healesville Rd, Yarra Glen ( a short drive outside the township near the Yarra Glen bypass).

From Melbourne it's an easy 57 km/ 60 minute drive, for directions from Melbourne CBD click here.

Alternatively there are plenty of tours that visit the Chocolaterie, click here for a full list.

And whilst you're in the Yarra Valley make sure you have enough time to visit one of the best playgrounds in Victoria, the children will love it. The parks official name is McKenzie Reserve and is located on Bell St ( Melba Hwy) Yarra Glen, and is just opposite the new shopping area.

There is a great article written by fellow writer Anita Coia on the playground and includes many photos which can be viewed here.
