The Australian Ballet 's delightful production of The Nutcracker is coming to Adelaide this autumn. The difference though is that this particular ballet experience will be perfect for boys and girls aged three and up. Three? Did you say three? Yes indeed, the Storytime Ballet series is aimed at children as young as three years old. This wonderful abridged 50-minute version of The Nutcracker has been adapted especially for them and their shorter attention spans.

Clara is given a nutcracker doll, as a Christmas present, by Drosselmeyer the magician at the end of a Christmas Eve party. During the night, Clara creeps downstairs to check on her doll and finds that magic is unloosed at midnight. The nutcracker comes alive and fights with the mouse king. Clara throws her slipper at the mouse king and saves the nutcracker. The nutcracker then transforms into a prince. The prince takes Clara to a magical kingdom where its grateful inhabitants perform dances for Clara. At the end, the prince whisks Clara home and Clara wakes up at the foot of her Christmas tree.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased from the Bass website. Prices are between $27 and $49, plus a service and handling fee of $8.95. The venue is Her Majesty's Theatre and the dates are from 27 to 30 April 2017.
