Want something fun to do with the kids these school holidays or on a weekend? Here are some creative story writing/telling activities you can do with the kids.

1). Fill in a word
Everyone writes up a story but leaves a few words out, they fold it up, write down how many words the person must write and then the person fills in the words. Then you open it up and read each other's funny stories. For example:

One day a _____ named Greg went to the ______. He loved it there so much he bought a ______ and shared it with his _______. The next day Greg went back there and spent 50 dollars on a ______. He gave it as a present to his ________ and they said ________.

You'd fold the story over and then write 1-7 on the other side for the person to think of words to write. Read aloud each other's funny stories.

2). One sentence each
Get a piece of paper and sit at a table. People take it in turns to write one or two sentences for a story. You can make it funny by covering up the majority of the story and leaving a few words to be seen. Each person adds to the story about 2-3 times. Then somebody can read it aloud.

3). My story
Everyone sits in a circle, the same as the paper version, everyone adds to the story but by speaking, when you want it to go to another person you just stop and the person sitting next to you carries on. It can be quite fun and also funny for the kids.

Give the kids a piece of lined paper, get a hat and write down a list of genres in it. Each child picks out a genre and must write a short story using that genre. You can use ones like comedy, romance, action, sci-fi, dramatic, and mystery.
