The Gumboot Collective is a centre whose aim is to bring people to art and vice-versa. They hold local events and workshops and have collaboration and mentorship to encourage and support emerging artists while also providing a community space where art can be shown and appreciated in the wider area.



This year Yarram , a small town located in the southeast of Gippsland, is going to be the Literary Centre of the State for the inaugural StoryFest on 2nd July 2022 at the Regent Theatre.

What to expect?

During the day, you will see or be involved in interviews, panels, and workshops, have rare experiences and enjoy masterclasses in reading, writing and relating stories. The price structure for the day is as follows and tickets must be purchased through Eventbrite or through the website prior to the event. One price will get you into everything happening on the main stage, however, the other special events, which are being held around Yarram are ticketed with limited spaces, so you need to book early to attend.



  • General Admission - $30.00pp
  • General Admission Concession - $15.00pp
  • Breakfast and Conversations with Alice Pung - $25.00pp and will be held at the Yarram Coffee Place from 7.30 to 9.00am.

  • Writing Workshops with Anne Buist - $20.00. This will be held at the Yarram Regent Theatre from 10.15 to 11.15am. Anne is an Australian researcher and practising psychiatrist and author of the Natalie King Crime Fiction Series.

  • The Novel Project Workshop with Graeme Simsion - $20.00pp will be held from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm. This workshop will give you first-hand key steps to bring your novel, biography or memoir to fruition.

  • Writing Family History with Alice Pung - $20.00pp Alice has first-hand experience in writing memoirs and fiction



  • Young Writers Workshop with Scot Gardner - $15.00. Scot is an Australian young adult fiction writer, and this workshop will be held between 1.30 to 2.30pm

  • Crime Writing Workshop with RWR McDonald - $22.19, which includes a $2.19 fee. RWR McDonald is author of The Nancy Series. Time 1.30 to 2.30pm at the Regent Theatre.



  • So You Want to be a Poet? With Dan Ryan - $20.00. Dan is a local poet and will lead a discussion relating to you the traditional role of a poet in society, some famous poets through the ages and his personal favourites.

  • There will be a Special Degustation Dinner, which will cost you $120.00pp at CafĂ© Aga, but this is limited to forty spaces.

    The event commences at 9.30am with an Acknowledgement to Country and Welcome to the Festival followed by several artist stories and presentations. More information can be read here.
