Dr Seuss spells fun in any language
Children at a story time at SLV
It is fun in any language
Hallo Ciao, Bonjour, γειά σου. All over Melbourne are places that offer non-English story-times, or bilingual story-times for preschoolers.
For some of the parents and children who attend, English is their second language. But others parents mainly speak English at home, but want their child to have a second language. This is to give them early encouragement in a language they will later learn at primary school or even kindergarten or because grandparents are from another country. There are also some grandparents who take their grandchildren along to these sessions as a special outing that only they can have with them.
Or parents may simply wish to expose their children to other cultures and nationalities. There is usually time to socialise after the sessions so you can meet people from other cultural backgrounds. Story times are often more than books but a place to sing songs, do finger rhymes, recite nursery rhymes as well as make things. In short they are FUN.
All sessions are FREE.
