On Saturday 1st June, animal lovers will unite to march against the dog and cat meat trade. We tend to think of this as a problem that affects other countries, however, it is astonishing for many people to find out that it's actually not illegal in most States and Territories of Australia, except South Australia, which is the only State that prohibits the killing of cats and dogs and their consumption.

The March will take place from 10am, meeting at the Treasury Gardens in Melbourne and aims to raise awareness about the current laws in Australia, which many feel should change.

It will also acknowledge the dogs that are killed for human consumption each year as part of the Yulin Festival in China. Approximately, 10,000 to 15,000 dogs are killed during this Festival which runs for 10 days every year.

The March is in early stages of planning and you can keep updated via their Facebook page. This will be a peaceful march.
