The City of Stonnington has prepared an amazing line-up of acts and events for their 100% Australian Jazz Festival from 17 – 27 May 2012.

Jazz singer and pianist Sarah McKenzie will be making a reappearance at this year's Jazz Festival when she launches the festival on Thursday 17 May, and promotes her new jazz album, Close Your Eyes. Joining her will be her Quartet and the Generations in Jazz Big Band at the Malvern Town Hall at 8pm.

Experience a range of smooth to finger-clickin' jazz tunes with over 28 performers throughout the 10-day festival with acts including: The Jelly Tub Rollers playing 1930s dance jazz and blues; Frankie Wants Out, the nine piece jazz band, playing an eclectic mix of swing jazz; Alex & Nilusha for some real smooth and sensual jazz vocals and sounds; Vince Jones, one of Australia's leading jazz vocalist, is a must-see, and the highly talented James Morrison, one of the great highlights of the festival, will be playing at Red Bennies on Thursday 24 May.

Interestingly, the lead singer of Thirsty Merc, Rai Thistlewayte, who is well-known for his rock songs, is in fact also a very talented jazz pianist, and you can watch him shine at the Malvern Town Hall on Saturday 19 May.

There will also be free performances and workshops, which include: Nick Charles Trio, a rare free performance on Sunday afternoon, the perfect day for some smooth blues and ragtime jazz; or bring your jazz instrument along to a free jazz workshop and meet some of Australia's respected jazz musician teachers including John Mackey, Nick Haywood, Bob Sedergreen, Allan Browne, and Mal Sedergreen; or see Fly Right Trio for free with any purchase of a meal at The Greek Deli for some groovy 30s, 40s, and 50s jazz tunes.

The festival ends on Sunday 27 May with a free performance by UltraFox at the Prahran Market whose gypsy jazz sounds will have your foot tapping and your mind thinking back to the days when your European grandmother bake you sachertorte, or at least you'll pretend to as the European gypsy tunes take over.
