The food here is rock solid
Coming from Ringwood the Stonehouse Café is about one kilometre before reaching the Warrandyte shopping precinct. It is located in a stone-walled building.

It offers all day breakfast and lunch with a modern Australian menu. It is also licenced. The menu is not extensive, but everyone should find something appetising, even children and vegetarians.

We visited for a weekday lunch and it was almost full. A nearby table of ten contributed to the reasonably loud background noise, but that does add atmosphere to your dining experience unless you are wanting a cosy romantic lunch.

The background noise reduced noticeably when their meals arrived.

On arrival, a bottle of water was placed before us and a pre-lunch coffee was very hot, as ordered. From ordering to eating was 30 minutes, not an excessive time considering the number of diners.

Once our meals arrived the wait was forgotten as we began devouring our feast. It was very tasty and just the right size. I ordered gnocchi which came as small fried squares rather than the usual boiled presentation.

My dining partner ordered chicken sliders with chips, reporting that they tasted delicious.

There is a covered outdoor dining area available for the hardy in the colder weather, but would be delightful in all but extremely hot days. From the outdoors balcony a view into the surrounding bush presents a nice vista. Several birds were noticed flitting between the trees.

The Stonehouse Café was originally named "Lunch with the Lorikeets," which explains the painting of two lorikeets on the sign near the entrance.

On the counter and around the restaurant are displays of many products for sale. These items include, spices, several different butters, mustards, chutney and many such products.

The cost of our two mains and one coffee around a reasonable $40-00.

I have dined there several times over the years and will certainly will again.
