There are at least eight cafes and restaurants, as well as the refurbished Hunters Hill Hotel, located near the junction of Gladesville and Ryde Roads at Hunters Hill, all competing for business. Recently my daughter and I felt like a simple lunch so instead of heading to the well-known eateries in the area, we sat ourselves down at the outdoor section of the , a small shop with a fine selection of baked goods.

This eatery has been around for only two years but judging from the number of customers who arrived just after us, they are a force to be reckoned with in the local area. Stoneground bake their own range of pies, quiches and pastries, as well as their artisan breads. I was told they bake everything in-house and a lot of love goes into it.

We ordered two strawberry milkshakes which arrived in a nice glass milk bottle and were very flavoursome.

My daughter ordered the Massaman Curry Beef Pie and I ordered the Lamb, Rosemary and Potato Pie: no side orders, just an uncomplicated lunch. The pies not only looked interesting, but they delivered in their taste.
