Tucked away down Alfred Place in the Melbourne CBD, has earned the reputation of being a fine dining establishment for special events and celebrations and high end corporate dining. But with the recent menu refresh, this tasty little jem has opened itself up to become more accessible to anyone with a love of a clever menu and great atmosphere.

From the street side, diners can ascend the grand staircase inside this heritage listed building to or take a casual dining approach with the bar and kitchen downstairs.

The menu is clever and while it might appear to be a little adventurous, the food is amazing quality and served up in a way that multiple dishes can be shared so there's certainly something you'll enjoy.

While you'd be forgiven for thinking this is a special occasion restaurant, it's actually rather laid back in a smart casual sort of way and is ideal for a Friday business lunch as it is a girls afternoon weekend lunch. It's also ideal as a date night venue.

No matter what your dietary requirements are, there's plenty of options to choose from and the service is friendly, warm and helpful (especially when you're really stuck on menu choice and needs some recommendations.)

The best way to sum up is that it's an ideal option when you're looking for something sophisticated without the pretension you can sometimes get in fine dining CBD venues. With large chandeliers that give a nod to it's beach side past, you'll immediately feel comfortable here.

We felt at ease asking for suggestions and enjoyed ever dish we tried. Especially the pumpkin with curds and whey (we're told it's a favourite!)

The menu changes frequently so there's always something new to try and the wine and cocktail list is extensive. Lastly, make sure to save room for dessert (we didn't and regretted it when we saw a neighboring one) but alas, all the more reason to go back again.

It's also worth adding that if you do plan to host a special event there, the private dining area seats about 25-30 and would be ideal for a special celebration.
