Considering the Mornington Peninsula is surrounded by farmland, it is no surprise to stumble upon a store selling a variety of fresh, local and organic produce.

On route to the Tyabb Antique's Packing House I came across a quaint, traditional looking fruiterer and greengrocer on the Frankston-Flinders Road in Somerville.

Stockton's Coolstore is a family run shop, located in Somerville on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, around 60 kilometres from Melbourne's CBD. The store originally dates back to the 1890's, when it was once an apple coolstore where local fruit growers would store their produce.

Did you know that Somerville was once at the heart of one of Australia's largest fruit growing areas? More interesting facts on the store history can be found on Stockton Coolstore's website .

While most of the fresh fruit and vegetables found at Stockton's is locally sourced, some stock is bought in from other markets, but all of which is Australian produce.

Stockton's produce is evidently fresh, and the variety (apples in particular) is good.

As well as fresh fruit and vegetables, you'll also find an array of organic food such as dry pastas, jars of sauces, and tinned legumes, as well as free range eggs.

In addition to shopping in person, Stockton's Coolstore also operate a delivery service for Mornington Peninsula residents. You can find out further information on orders and delivery here .

Stockton's Coolstore is worth a stop if you pass through the Peninsula, and need to stock up on your fresh fruit and veggies.
