The Astronomical Society of South Australia (ASSA) is holding the
on
Saturday 14 August 2021 from 6-9.30pm ACST at
Stockport Observatory, Observatory Rd, Stockport. A
FREE event, be sure to
register to secure your spot. Come along and spend the evening under the stars with the most experienced skywatchers in South Australia and knuckle down for an amazing celestial experience.
The observatory is just far enough at approximately 80kms north of Adelaide, to be away from the light pollution for better viewing.
See Here for more information. For Covid safety, shared eyepieces will not be offered to view the night sky. Instead, near real-time close-up views of celestial objects will be displayed on laptops, iPads, TV screens, or projected onto large surfaces using a suite of innovative imaging and automation technologies. This offers several advantages including showing deep-sky objects brighter, in greater detail, and in colour compared to traditional eyepiece views. You can be assured you will take away a truly memorable and unique experience of our universe.
There's a mix of activities planned for guests for the duration of the event like laser guided tour of the night sky and telescope tours of the universe - live, amongst other activities, including a Q&A session. Find out more about the dos and don'ts when you register, including more details about
selfies with the moon and
ask an astronomer. Feel free to walk around the site to view the various telescopes and talk with members. And ask plenty of questions!
Before embarking on the long drive, ticket holders MUST check the ASSA website or Facebook site at noon Saturday 14 August to ensure the event is going ahead. You'll also find many other events scheduled on the website you may be interested in.
