On the fourth Sunday of each month, the come alive. Some stall holders live in the area, others come from far and wide just to sell their produce and wares. One lady I spoke to, drives two hours to Stirling to sell her oranges, every market day.

[ADVERT]Wherever they come from, they are all very friendly and willing to talk about what they are selling. Some also have free samples and tastings for you to try. Because these people sell direct to the public, straight from their own farm or backyard, their produce is very fresh, and you can taste the difference from what you normally buy in your local metropolitan supermarket.

Along with fruit and vegetables, they also sell cheese, second hand books, pot plants, herbs, toys, jewellery, ornaments and general bric-a-brac. You get the idea; with over 80 stall holders, this market has a lot.

If you're not in a shopping mood, you can just enjoy the atmosphere. The markets are located under shady maple trees, and there is a local band playing live music. Fresh coffee, savoury food, hot dogs, pies and other pastries from local bakeries top it all off.

Approximately fifteen kilometres from the city, Stirling can be reached along the South Eastern Freeway, or you can cruise some of the wonderful back roads less travelled – all approaches are scenically superb. Either way, head down there and soak it all up.
