STIRLING FRESH IGA - Cedric Street Stirling

When people ask me where I live and I tell them Stirling, they often remark something along the lines "lucky you living so close to Cedric St IGA". This surprised me at first, but I hear it that often and now have come to realise a lot of people go out of their way to shop at this excellent little supermarket.

When you walk into the store you soon realise why, the abundantly packed Fruit and Vegetable section almost jumps out at you to say welcome - beautifully stacked oranges apples and pears looking superb and so fresh, the display does catch your eye.

A little further into the store and the Continental Deli section comes into view, but for the patient customers waiting their turn to be served, you would see a cold store full of cold meats, cheeses and antipasto, Italian hot and mild sausages hanging from the ceiling alongside yet more cheese. This IGA store is so well staffed you never have to wait long and it always seems there is another customer there to take your place after you have been served and continue off to shop your way through the store.

There are beautifully cooked BBQ Roast Chickens that always manage to bring hunger pangs to my belly, they smell so good. Alongside this cabinet there are fresh bread rolls to be had and don't forget the cake cabinet with all your needs for the special afternoon tea or just to spoil yourself, the best of them all the Corica Apple Strudels, they are so YUM YUM!

I call into Stirling Fresh IGA in Cedric Street at least twice a week on my way home from work to buy fresh vegetables for our dinner. There are several other stores I pass on my way but I know that I will always find just what I am looking for here, and that it is going to be top quality and as fresh as can be - it is just such a reliable place to shop, I love it.

The Meat Section is always chock-full of freshly packed meats. Proprietor Richard Maio keeps the shelves well stocked and there is such a wide variety to choose from too. I love to cook and eat rabbit and occasionally goat, these are readily available all the time, as are your usual cuts of beef, pork, lamb and chicken. The meat specials are worth keeping an eye on as well, there is always a bargain on offer.

When I came into the store this morning to ask if I could take a few photos for this article as I shopped, Richard was busy out in the butcher shop talking with the radio announcer John Burgess and his wife Jan, just two of the many customers that travel a long distance to shop here. Whilst I waited, I chatted with Jerry Maio and was pleased to learn that Stirling Fresh will be opening on Sundays, once the Sunday trading commences August 26th 2012.

I love Italian food and cook a lot of it, so I tend to use a lot of tomatoes in my cooking, my preference for the canned variety is the Annalisa brand - Richard often has these out on special, as he did today. I picked up a 24 can case for $16.56, that works out at just 69 cents per can, great value. I also brought a 2 kilo bag of good quality Australian parmesan cheese for less than $20.00 - absolute bargain.

Shopping at Stirling Fresh IGA is so satisfying on so many levels, the great quality food, bolstered by the awesome variety and the friendly staff are all enough to keep you coming back, but to cap it off is the great feeling of community spirit in the store as you see shoppers stopping to chat with one another is the norm. Richard and his staff are doing a fantastic job and I wish them every success as they continue to do so and for a long, long time I hope.
