Alzheimer's Australia ACT in association with the Stilettos and Capital Sound and Lighting is proudly presenting a Dementia and the Arts specific fundraising event on Friday 23rd of June, 2017 at the Hellenic Club.Come along with your friends and enjoy a fun night of classic swing and jazz favourites performed by The Stilettos, a Canberran all female vocal harmony trio and help raise much-needed funds for Alzheimer's Australia ACT's unique Dementia and the Arts program. You can opt for a delicious two-course dinner and show or just view the show and dance the night away. All proceeds from this exciting event will go straight to the Dementia and the Arts program and help support people living with dementia, their families and carers living in our community.
The vision of the Dementia & Arts Program is to inspire the lives of people with dementia and their carers in the ACT and increase their opportunities for enhanced well-being, quality of life and social interaction through integrating the arts into the design and delivery of all programs and services. The current Art programs include interactive, discussion-based gallery tours at the National Gallery of Australia and the National Portrait Gallery. Reminiscing and objects handling workshops both at the Museum of Australia and through the museum's outreach program and the Alikara group based at the office in Kaleen. There is also a dynamic hands-on art group, a self-directed group where participants are free to indulge in their own creativity. Performing arts is not forgotten with the development of 'The Alchemy Chorus' together with Brian Triglone, its founder and conductor – successfully developing Canberra's 1st Dementia friendly performing choir. Finally the amazing 'Vivacity' – a collaboration between Alzheimer's Australia ACT, Philip Piggin and The Belconnen Arts Centre, a dance class for both the body and the brain. Utilising the music of ABBA, Vangelis and well-known show tunes to create movement, reminiscing opportunities and a lot of laughter. The Dementia and the Arts program does not currently have any funding to support it through the long term. With your support, Alzheimer's Australia ACT can invest in this program and continue to inspire the lives of people living with dementia and their carers in our region.Tickets are now on sale through Trybooking . Dinner and Show is $80pp and Show only is $50pp. Early bookings are encouraged. For more information on this fundraising event, please visit Trybooking .
