Isn't it amazing how a single moment can change your life forever? One moment you are fit, healthy, and training for an upcoming competition, and then the next you are in a hospital bed, fighting for your life. In October 2008, this is exactly what happened to Steven Crenfeldt. While training for the Ironman Western Australian Triathlon, Steven was involved in a serious bike accident that landed him in hospital.

Since his ordeal, and recovery, Steven has written his book 'A Long Ride Back' , which he first launched in April 2012. He wrote this to share his experience with others, to help them learn an important lesson about how it's the journey that is important, not the outcome. His book tells the story of his life before and after the accident, from training before the accident, months spent in hospitals, the rehabilitation after and his return to triathlon. It was at the 2010 Busselton 70.3 Half Ironman, where Steven was presented with the Paul Goodman award for competing under courageous circumstances.

"This is the story of how I got back doing the sport that I love, after a serious bike accident. It is about how an event can change your life and how your network of friends surround you and give you the greatest chance of success, more than you would ever be able to achieve on your own." - Steven Crenfeldt.

"The capacity for physical recovery is remarkable with the scars a mark of the trauma and the subsequent journey made possible when you add in the elusive mental strength." - Prof. Fiona Wood FRACS AM; Winthrop Professor, BIRU, School of Surgery, UWA; Chair, The McComb Research Foundation.

"Steve's story shows that the journey to Ironman WA (or equivalent), is just an analogy for life. To succeed is to love the journey, not just celebrate at the finish line." - Mitchell Anderson (Ironman Champion, MBBS, Raconteur)%%

On 7th April Steven will be hosting a re-launch for his book 'A Long Ride Back' at the Paddington Hotel in Mt Hawthorn. This would be a great opportunity to buy the book and meet Steven to chat to him about his experiences and maybe even find some words of encouragement and wisdom. If you have the afternoon off, why not make the trip down and meet a man who fought hard to get back to his passion, rather than taking the easy road and giving up?
