The life the Davis family lived on this selection of land provided the inspiration for the popular book On Our Selection, written by one of the sons, Arthur Davis, under the pen name "Steele Rudd".

His son, Eric, established the park as a tribute to his father and all of the district's pioneers.

The largest building in the park is a replica of the "inside shingle hut" the family had lived in. The original hut had gaps between the wooden slabs for the wall, and the family's father would apply a mixture of cow dung and sand to the floor each month to keep it level.

There is also an "outside shingle hut" replica, which was used for farm animals such as a pig and chickens. The family also had a pet kangaroo.

The park has benches, a picnic shelter with a gas BBQ, and a second picnic table under the shade of a fig tree. There are also toilets available, and large grassy areas for kids to play. These facilities make this heritage stop not only interesting but a great place for families with young children to take a break from their travels.
