There will be mighty sounds from the best local musicians - South Coast Big Band and .

The event will be on Saturday 29th June 2019 at 7:30 pm. It will be held at the Wollongong Town Hall, Main Auditorium, Crown and Kembla Streets, Wollongong.



The sounds featured for this event include:

  • Paddy Kelly in [i]Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue[/i]

  • This will be a fantastic show where joins forces with South Coast Big Band. The hall will resound with music from a variety of different styles including classical, blues, jazz and music from films.

    This is a rare concert that should not be missed! The strings are celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2019 and are releasing their debut album featuring tunes primarily written and arranged by the band members.



    The event will feature George Gershwin's [i]Rhapsody in Blue[/i], Bob Brookmeyer's [i]Music for String Quartet and Orchestra[/i] – fanfare and folksongs, as well as music from Judy Bailey, Joni Mitchell and much more.

    South Coast Big Band is made up of 5 woodwinds, 8 brasses, 4 part rhythm sections and Gillian Meers' soaring voice.

    [b]ABOUT STEEL CITY STRINGS**
    is a local string orchestra from the Illawarra and Shoalhaven Region. The orchestra has professional musicians and talented amateur players from the area's local music community.



    They provide an important platform as follows:
  • For local musicians to get together to play music
  • To motivate young string players
  • To feature local soloists
  • To help and showcase talented Australian composers

  • Concerts they have put on featured compositions by Australian composers Sculthorpe and Grainger, as well as local composers Michael Barkl and John Spence.

    They have also featured the talents of local artists and performers – past concerts have included folk-singer Rebecca Moore and violinist Anna Da Silva Chen.

    They mentor and teach the young local players. They do this through coaching and provide opportunities to play and perform with the orchestra. This is an integral part of their strategy for developing the orchestra and its members.

    is a truly unique not-for-profit chamber orchestra which performs the highest quality chamber music. The orchestra has been delighting local audiences for the last four years, showcasing the great classical works for string orchestra and featuring local soloists, choirs, and composers.
