I have always been attracted to steam trains and recently I wrote about a number of them that were taking off from Brisbane on short and sometimes commemorative journeys. But when the steam trains team up with another love, in this case blues music, then it is almost irresistible.
The Steam Train Blues experience will take place on Saturday the 20th of June. This lovely idea came to fruition because of the efforts of Chris Fisher and Abby Smith Fisher. Some of you may know them from the Cardigan Bar in Sandgate.
Combining soulful blues music with the rhythmic rocking of a steam train seems like the best idea for a weekend activity which just stands out from the rest.
The grand plan has the train leaving at 2.15 pm from Roma street, so you don't even have to leap out of bed early on the Saturday. How thoughtful is that!
The train will head out to the Glass House Mountains and along the way you will be entertained with eclectic blues musicians. Drinks and snacks will be available on the train. Once at Glass House Mountains it will be a short walk to the Tavern which will provide finger food and a gourmet barbecue.
The Mojo Webb Band will be there to entertain everyone and there will be more music to keep you going for the return journey. Dave Martyn; Jimmy Watts; Jimi Beavis; Irresolute (Dick Desert and Lola Montgomery); Moondog Blues and Ben Eaton will all feature. Arrival at Roma street is scheduled for 9.04pm.
