Event:
The first steam hauled train to travel over the new skysail

On Saturday 23 June 2018, 707 Operations invites you and your family to 'steam' over Melbourne's new Skyrail on this exciting day-return excursion from Melbourne to Sale.

Venture along the main Eastern line and see parts of Melbourne that you have never seen before onboard steam locomotive R707, along with heritage diesel locomotives T413 and H5.

This excursion train will be the first steam hauled train to travel over the new Skyrail between Caulfield and Dandenong.

The adventure begins at Melbourne's Southern Cross Station with the train departing at 7.35 am and Flinders Street Station at 7.40 am. Suburban pick up points include stops at Dandenong (8.21 am) and Pakenham (8.48 am) and passing through Warragul at 9.45 am. The train will pause for at Traralgon and then continue to Sale - arrival is expected at 12.50 pm.

Whilst at Sale, you and your family will have two and a half hours to explore the township - attractions include Gippsland Art Gallery, Lake Guthridge and Flood Creeks foreshores and the historic port. You can also enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the many restaurants or pubs, which are only a short walk from the V/Line station.

The train will then depart Sale Station at 3.30 pm for a return to Melbourne through Traralgon, Warragul, before stopping at Pakenham (6.38 pm) and Dandenong (7.03 pm) and back into Flinders Street and Southern Cross Stations around 7.50 pm.

The train features a 1950's open saloon and compartment carriages, as well as open windowed Edwardian sleeper Wando and lounge carriages Victoria and BK708. In addition, the all-inclusive First-Class travel option, in steel sleeping converted to day sitting carriages, offers different unique travel options for a fun family-friendly day out.
