Inside the State Theatre
If you're looking for a different experience in Perth, you may consider visiting the State Theatre Centre of WA in Northbridge. The resident theatre company is the Black Swan State Theatre Company. Your idea of an enjoyable night may not normally involve seeing a Shakespearean play, but don't discredit the theatrical arts before you experience it for yourself. I know my partner wasn't too keen being dragged to watch A Midsummer Nights Dream but to his surprise he thoroughly enjoyed the experience and so did I. I couldn't believe that a Shakespearean play could make me laugh so much.
The building itself is just a beautiful craft of architecture. The gold fixtures hanging from the wall in the foyer creates a sophisticated and warm ambience, which is magnified when illuminated at night. The actual theatre is named the 'Health Ledger Theatre' and is designed with comfort and visibility in mind. From where I was sitting I never had the problem of not being able to see the stage (as I often do because of my height), and the timber clad walls and comfortable spacious seats made for a very pleasurable experience.
Productions that are being performed at this theatre varies from international plays, Australian productions, musical acts and I'm sure much more to come. Check out the website for upcoming theatre productions, and browse the list to find something that suits your taste.
