In this so-called Information Age, everything can be found and/or done online. That diary you once scrawled your deepest darkest secrets into during your childhood or teenage years is sadly now redundant.

Instead, the thing to do is get your thoughts online. Out into the World Wide Web for anyone to see.

This notion is not as ominous as it seems. For starters, your blog is anonymous (unless you don't wish it to be). Second of all, you never know who might stumble across your blog and appreciate the things you're putting out there.

You can blog about absolutely anything, and if no one ever ends up reading it, it doesn't matter.

If there's something you're obsessed about why not dedicate a blog to it. For example, if you love cooking start a blog about cooking and share your recipes and failure or success stories (see the film Julie and Julia for inspiration). Or, if you love eating at restaurants and cafes, start a blog reviewing all the places you go, good or bad. If perhaps you're a self-appointed film critic, review the latest movies you've seen.

You could also use a blog to rant and vent about the things that bother you in your day-to-day life, or you could use a blog to promote your business.

There's an endless list of ideas of things to blog about. You don't need to do it for anyone else but yourself, because sometimes putting words onto paper - I mean, computer screen - is a great way to process your thoughts.

To create your blog there are a number of platforms to choose from including Blogger, Wordpress, or Orble. These websites allow you to create a completely customisable blog free of charge. Choose images, colours, fonts and backgrounds to suit the concept you have chosen.

These sites are relatively easy to navigate but if you're stuck there are a number of guides online to starting a blog, which you can find simply by googling "how to start a blog".

You never know, but your blog could also end up making you money. Free of charge you can sign up for Google AdSense, which essentially places ads on your blog. If people click on them, you'll start generating income. This is a slow process but requires minimal effort so you really don't have much to lose. Be careful not to click on the ads yourself because Google has been known to cancel AdSense accounts at the slightest indication of suss behaviour.

For whatever reason, and mainly just for fun, start a blog and keep up with this fast paced technological world we live in.
