While the Gold Coast has seen a number of frozen yoghurt stores in the last few years, none of them have been able to gain enough popularity to stay in business for very long. Starberry, however, is quickly becoming a beachy hot spot. With its constant stream of customers from morning to night, Starberry is here to stay!
Located on Elkhorn Avenue in Surfers Paradise, Starberry is a fantastic place to visit for a cool yoghurty snack after a dip at the beach. What really sets the store apart from other yoghurt joints is that you can choose exactly how much or how little you want. The shop has a really neat self-serve setup that allows you to be in charge of everything. Whether you want a lot of one flavour, or a little bit of all, it's entirely up to you.
Yoghurt flavours change on a weekly basis, and they include some exotic flavours like Tahitian lime splice, coconut, and peanut butter. Of course, they also have more generic flavours such as original, forest berry, and chocolate.
Once you've pumped your yoghurt, it's time to move on to your toppings. There's always a wide range of fruit, chocolate, and nuts to pick from and again, you just scoop in whatever you want. Here's a photo of my mango and forest berry yoghurt with crushed Oreo and strawberries:
The pricing is done entirely by weight, so you pay for exactly what you get. It costs $2.85 per 100 grams, which works out to be cheaper than most ice cream stores around. Starberry also has some items with set prices, such as freshly squeezed juices, smoothies, and even protein shakes. If you're a member of the student group One Society, you can enjoy 20% off by simply flashing your key at the counter.
So if you're looking for something different to snack on, drop in to Starberry and give frozen yoghurt a go. It's (relatively) cheap, healthy, and most importantly of all, delicious.
