I bet the title has already caught your attention. Yes, the widely popular Star Trek series which was launched in 2010 and published by Perfect World Entertainment for sister company developers Cryptic Studios became free to play last year in January, 2012.
Set in a time period thirty years after the events of Star Trek Nemesis in 2409, it takes you on an adventure ride in time and Star Trek history.
In the various available missions, players level up slowly as they are recruited as an Ensign and slowly gain reputation. At level 50, they attain the rank of Vice Admiral and that's when the game is said to become more interesting with all the free to play features of the game unlocking (Rank Guide).
At present the players have an option to play the game either as a Starfleet Officer or a Klingon Warrior, with Romulan expansion pack coming out soon.
The settings take the player across the galaxy as they explore, secure and expand in stature. A lot of missions are based on proper story lines seen in various Star Trek series and films. However, the game throws a few surprises even to an avid Trekkie.
The game-play is simple and easily playable with a keyboard and mouse with on-screen controls. Players can take control of their star ship, recruit bridge officers and duty officers according to their speciality and also transport on planets and starbases for away missions.
With the sheer complexity of gameplay and a good story line, this game is definitely worth your attention.
