The Perth Observatory will be opening its doors to Trekkie fans on Thursday, the 5th of April to celebrate first contact between Vulcans and humans. First contact between Vulcans and humans is referred to as First Contact Day . It took place in the Star Trek universe on the evening of April 5, 2063.

On that evening man called Zefram Cochrane launched the first manmade warp capable space vessel. He called it the Phoenix. His flight was detected by a passing Vulcan survey ship called the T'Plana-Hath. The Vulcans landed in Bozeman, Montana, and met with Cochrane and history was made. First Contact is an important holiday in the world of Star Trek.

This 5th of April dust off your phaser, clip your tricorder to your belt and pin on your combadge and come along to the Perth Observatory to take part in a night time tour. The tour will start at 7.30pm and will finish between 9pm and 9.30pm.

Adults will be $50, Concession will be $40 and Children will be $30. You will view the dazzling night sky through a wide range of powerful telescopes. Volunteers will point out things like planets, Nebulas, dying stars and star clusters.

If you come dressed in costume there will be prizes for the best dressed adult and child. It will be a fun night for everyone.
