Restaurants with this vantage point do not come along every day. The Star of Greece Restaurant has the enviable position of being situated high on the cliffs of Port Willunga Beach with sky high views out to the beach, sea and sky. You will hear a lot about the view, but it is well worth the journey. The aqua colour of the sea makes this a real picture.

History
This restaurant has been slowly evolving over many years. It was originally a ramshackle kiosk and the only food option at Port Willunga and as such, a popular spot. New owners saw the potential and renovated the venue into a five star restaurant. New renovations in 2015 have allowed more dining space with a big new deck area overlooking the coast. The Star of Greece is the name of a ship that came to grief in Port Willunga in July 1888, as she set off for Great Britain with her cargo of wheat.

The Menu
The menu offerings are more in line with a combination of the friendly hospitality of pub dining and the stylish flair of an A la carte restaurant. This is modern Australian food, not pretentious but willing to experiment. One of their signature dishes is the King George whiting fish and chips. Other main courses selections include Sashimi of Kingfish, Jamon, Crispy skinned pork fillet and Coorong Angus with Morten Bay bugs.

Vegetarian Options
The vegetarian options were disappointing however. The only main dish offered was a bland pasta dish, the most flavour being in the cherry tomatoes and zucchini. The good news is the emphasis on excellent local and seasonal food.

Number One Salt & Pepper Squid
Salt & Pepper Squid is another one of their signature dishes, recently listed as the 'number one best tastes of Australia' in the Adelaide Advertiser. This is available from the restaurant and kiosk.

Food as Art
The Star of Greece inspires with its food design. Each dish is plated to perfection. The combination of fresh food presented with such finesse is what makes this a special dining experience. Plus did I mention those views.

The Décor
The theme here is white and beachy. White tablecloths and chairs and little cacti table decorations. Dine al fresco on the deck. The main installation is those million dollar views.

Wine, Beer & Sparkling
There is a great selection of wines, as one would expect from being collated by wine connoisseur Doug Govan of the Victory Hotel. McLaren Vale region wines are highlighted, plus the excellent local beer by Goodieson's. There are some great selections in the sparkling including the ever-reliable Jansz.

This is a special occasion venue. The beach location is a real winner. The kiosk is available for those who wish to slum it and still enjoy the King George whiting or salt and pepper squid. Find a special occasion and put this creative Australian restaurant on your list to visit.
