Throughout history multiple words, acronyms and catch phrases have wormed, accreted, cajoled, wheedled and finagled their way into contemporary language. Over the last fifteen years such examples include "selfie," "Wi-Fi" and "ROFLMAO" to name a few.

One of these acronyms is "GTL," the origins of which are shrouded in mystery. Some say that GTL was first created in the controversial MTV series "Jersey Shore." Others don't particularly care.

GTL. Gym. Tan. Laundry.

Whether you consider GTL a daily mantra, a weekly duty, or a repugnant, narcissistic indulgence to be avoided, "Laundry" is possibly the least optional of the three, though this is of course debatable.

is a new self-service laundry that was recently opened on Greenhill Road. Opening hours are 7 days a week, 6am to 11pm. Although the very nature of such a business is practicality rather than flamboyance, provides everything one would reasonably expect in a 21st century Laundromat.

On entering, plastic chairs and a long steel table are present to the immediate left. A few well thumbed magazines ruffle in the light breeze.

Ahead are nine gleaming stainless steel front loaders, four of which are Dexter T-300 machines, four of which are Dexter T-400 machines, and in the centre, a shiny, polyhedral behemoth of brushed steel and sharp corners, a Dexter T-600. Peering inside its silent maw, I allow myself a brief moment to ponder the monumental load required to fill its capacious abdominal cavity. I have a passing thought about falling in and being trapped. Thankfully it passes.

Immediately opposite and lining the wall are a row of similar appearing steel drying machines. The handy ability to pay using your mobile phone, a mobile phone charging station and free Wi-Fi (presumably partly so you can pay using the aforementioned mobile phone) and free detergent are welcome features not usually found in a more traditional Laundromat. Safety features include a conspicuous screen showing real time footage of the premises with several security features prominently placed in each ceiling corner.

In addition, a vending machine selling everything for a very reasonable $2 (at least for vending machine prices) is present at the entrance, unless you're looking for some other snack like some quick beef noodles a few doors down.

If it's a weekend and you find yourself in Tusmore looking for a self service laundry that does everything it needs do with the added convenience of free Wi-Fi, a coin changer, a mobile phone charging station and flexible payment options, is a convenient choice.
