Stop 'em escaping
For families with more than one small child, fenced playgrounds are just wonderful.
It is a well-established fact that you only have to turn your head for half a minute and an adventurous 2 year old can be engineering their escape! It is even trickier if you are running solo and looking after two escape artists at once.
Located adjacent to the Cheltenham Library is a little gem of a park! Fully fenced with grassed areas for picnic rugs, Stanley Avenue Reserve is a great resource for local families and those visiting Cheltenham.
Whilst there is shade, the park seems to be a bit of a sun trap and even on a cold winter day it was quite enjoyable sitting in the sun at one of the picnic tables whilst the children played. Especially as it is only a 5 minute walk to the shopping strip where takeaway coffees can be obtained!
There are the usual swings, including a round net swing, there is also a slide, a spinner and a great train for kids to play in. Given the park is so close to the railway line this is wonderful, as local children will surely be familiar with the trains.
There is timed parking available on the street or in the library car park. Whilst there are no toilets in the park itself, a gate leads out to the library where toilets are available during opening hours.
If you are visiting the library or nearby shops, a visit to Stanley Avenue Reserve would be a great way to please the little people in your life and while away an hour or so. If you can get your kids to sit still for longer than a few minutes, you might even be able to read them a story book borrowed from the library...
Sometimes it is the simple things in life that are the best.
