Have you been to a roller rink lately? My kids were keen to learn to skate so we took them along to for a "trial run". We each decided to hire a pair of "old fashioned" roller skates to begin with, which I think was a sensible move. There were plenty of skates to hire ($2.50 per pair) and lots of folk took their own.

We joined a surprisingly popular weekend general session, which was great fun and good exercise to boot. The first half of the session was spent getting acquainted with "shoes with wheels" but then we ventured onto the wooden floored arena and even joined in a few games. These included a rather tricky round of Simon Says (aka. Who's the very best listener?), a lively round of Roller Limbo, and Corners with chocolates for prizes. One lucky girl was even celebrating her birthday party during our session and we all sang "Happy Birthday" to her.

On a hot day in Brisbane, finding a cool, shady place to have some fun can sometimes be a challenge. is a great indoor option for young and old alike. Whether you're a blading expert or first time roller skater, or even just a spectator, you will definitely have a good time.
