The Stables of Como Cafe

Last week I had a lovely brunch at The Stables of Como in South Yarra. Being new to Melbourne, I have been on a culinary journey of discovery since arriving precisely five weeks ago.
The Stables is set within the grounds of a sprawling old-world property, Como House & Gardens. Think Jane Austen times - remember the first time Elizabeth Bennett laid eyes on Pemberley?
I had the Gardener's Breakfast which came with the most amazing mushrooms I've ever tasted. When I asked the waitress what the "mushroom secret" was, she replied "oh you don't want to know". I suspect generous lashings of butter could be the answer.
There are plenty of all-day breakfast options and some tempting lunch offerings as well. I came to the happy conclusion that I'd need to return to try the rumbled eggs with pancetta and truffle pecorino.
The Stables has a warm and inviting atmosphere, industrial chic meets country farmhouse. It was the perfect setting to sit back, relax and sip on a freshly-brewed chai latte after devouring my Gardener's Breakfast.
On my way out, I resisted the urge to grab a giant freckle or home-made musk stick. Not due to my steely resolve, simply because I couldn't squeeze another thing into my belly.
I also noticed a sign for the "picnic" menu and pondered how relaxing it would be to sit amongst the beautiful grounds of Como House with a chicken Waldorf sandwich in hand.
Oh yes, I can definitely see myself returning to The Stables of Como!
