Everyone loves a market. It's the natural and traditional way to shop, unlike our rushed anxiety-invoking dashes down to the local shopping plaza after work or during an hour of our precious weekend. The market experience isn't all about buying stuff, either. Since time immemorial, throughout the world, markets have been meeting places for local communities. Places where neighbours can swap news, have a laugh and meet new-comers, and children can play together while the adults chat. Taking place from 8am until 12 noon every Saturday, in the primary school forum of St Stephen's school in Carramar, St Stephen's Community Farmer's Market is one such place, embracing the grass-roots ethos of 'You grow it. You make it. You sell it'.

Located in Perth's northern suburbs, close to both Joondalup and Wanneroo, St Stephen's Community Farmer's Market is a positive alternative to the large mega-plazas that are now found throughout Perth. The market is located close to many market gardens and is therefore the perfect place to stock up on some of the city's freshest locally-grown produce. In addition, many local artisans sell their wares there, providing shoppers with the opportunity to purchase exquisite one-of-a-kind products directly from the person who made them. More than just another shopping destination, the market also provides live entertainment, children's activities and other facilities, thus enhancing the family-friendly community spirit that makes it so special.

Apart from the fresh produce stalls, some of 's main drawcards are the wide array of stalls purveying high-quality handmade wares. Whether you're looking for gifts for a special birthday or event, or simply want to pamper yourself, you're sure to find something really lovely. Some of the markets' regular stall-holders include the exquisite Candleluscious soya candles, Amaze Balls (yummy healthy raw snacks), Guinea Grove Farm's certified organic olive oil products, Truffles by Trish, Yoffee Toffee and Wildfire Scents. Of course, this is just a small selection.

In conclusion, if you love shopping the old-fashioned way, then you'll definitely enjoy a visit to St Stephen's Community Farmer's Markets in the heart of Perth's northern food bowl. Located in the lovely grounds of St Stephen's School in Carramar, the markets not only offer a great range of locally-grown produce and handmade wares, but also the opportunity to simply relax and chill out with the family. Best of all, by shopping at the markets you'll be supporting a very worthy community cause. The markets are a not-for-profit organisation that has been formed to raise funds for Carramar Uniting Church.

St Stephen's Community Farmer's Market takes place every Saturday from 8am until 12 noon at St Stephen's School in Carramar. To find out more, check out the market's website or visit their Facebook page .
