St. Peters Anglican Church, Jennapullin
As I was making my way to Wongan Hills along the Northam-Pithara Road from Northam, I noticed this quaint
church almost in the middle of nowhere.
I found it particularly odd to have a church in the middle of farm lands with the closest town at least 10 km away. However, it seemed that the Church itself did not mind as it stood on higher ground looking over waves of canola fields.
After some research on this particular church, I found that it to be on the heritage list, and notably so. Built in 1914, I could imagine this church being the centre point and meeting grounds for many farming families.
Although it has seen its fair share of baptisms and marriages, on the day of my visit it stood quietly in the cool winter air with birds chirping to the setting sun.
I tried to imagine if this church had stained glass during its prime time. In its place was clear glass panels which look like it could have held homage to glass art in past years.
While I was unable to view the interior, the exterior was well taken care of. The driveway was clean and tidy with no noticeable overgrown weeds to be seen. I wonder, after all these years, if this church is still in use?
The best time to view this little piece of history is in the late afternoon when the sun sets, birds chirp, and there is a moment of complete silence that soothes a very busy soul.
