Have you ever been to a seafood steakhouse? I haven't, and yes you've read it right – if two of the things you love the most are seafood and steak, at last they are together in one place in the western suburbs. The diverse menu at St Patrick's Tavern will in the very least surprise you, like it did me.
The starters menu lets you jump right into the seafood with three different types of oysters to choose from – natural, Kilpatrick and Mornay. Vegetarian options such as a baked feta tartlet and tomato and basil bruschetta and nachos are available too. Caesar salad, barbequed octopus, two different types of prawns and even squid are all on offer.
I don't think it'd quite be a modern Australian restaurant if it didn't feature the option of pasta and risotto, with vegetarian options available as well as the seafood options such as prawns. Seafood lovers will be delighted at the Marinara risotto, which contains mussel meat, fish, squid and prawns. Traditionalist semi-vegetarians like myself could choose something a bit less wild such as a chicken and mushroom risotto. By the way, these are all also available as entrees if desired.
The dedicated main menu contains barramundi fillets, perch fillets, dory fillets, Greek style lamb, American style barbeque pork ribs, chicken, duck, meat, more meat and even more meat. St Patrick's Tavern's nickname of the Seafood Steakhouse certainly makes a lot of sense.
The pricing is very reasonable by the way, at about $25 a main. The soup of the day is priced only at $9.95, which definitely appeals to me. Take your date to the Seafood Steakhouse because even if he or she is a vegetarian, there are viable options for them there. The selection of sauces is impressive too, with plain gravy, mushroom gravy, seeded mustard sauce, hollandaise sauce, pepper sauce and Diane sauce. My personal favourite is hollandaise so I'm pretty excited.
There are six live seafood tanks for those of you who like seeing what you're eating in its animated, living form. The atmosphere is classy as music plays from a beautiful piano. If you're in the west and looking for a pristine fine dining establishment, you can't miss the Seafood Steakhouse at St Patrick's Tavern. This place has actually won the best restaurant award in 2008 and 2009, the Angus Beef Board Award in 2008 and the best small business award in 2008 and 2009. All this has got to count for something. With prices as reasonable as this and such a tempting menu, it's no surprise the success that this establishment has.
I almost regret not living in the west now because I'm so far away from here. I might have to take a special trip to Seven Hills just to try it now. If any of our dear readers have been here, please leave a message below about how it was. I'm genuinely curious – is the Seafood Steakhouse at St Patrick's worth travelling to all the way from the east on public transport?
