Grand Catholic Cathedral
St Mary's Cathedral is the oldest Catholic Church and one of the most beautiful landmarks in Sydney.

It is iconic and beautifully built in an intricate architecture design. We have walked past it many times and always admired the church from a distance.

Afternoon tea break is my favourite time of the day because that is the time when I can take my eyes away from the computers and enjoy the spectacular Cathedral view from above.

This historic sandstone church stands solidly and proudly on Sydney's prime real estate with leafy Hyde Park by its side.

I have seen weddings, tour groups and school excursions all happening in front of the St Mary's Cathedral's quadrangle. It is the ideal wedding photography location and a popular tourist attraction.

St Mary's Cathedral is an impressive building that can be seen from all around Sydney. The magnificent twin peak towers reach high up towards the heavens. The timeless classic sandstone exterior fašade adds to the overall exquisiteness of the church.

As part of the 2014 Sydney Festival, we were able to take an inside tour of St Mary's Cathedral for the first time.

Let's take a peek inside! ~

The large panels of stained glass windows were breathtaking. When light shone through them, beautiful hues were cast all over the interior.

Many visitors stepped into the light, closed their eyes and said a quick prayer at the altar. We all need a little blessing from above to help us get through the day.

Another distinctive feature is the breathtaking sweep of the arches in the main cathedral. We were certainly amazed and wowed by their grandness.

The collection of tea lights warmly illuminated the church. The overall atmosphere was solemn but inviting.

The experience was totally awesome and is beautiful, even for non-Catholics. The Church was over-filled with tourists and local visitors this afternoon taking glimpses of this well-maintained old church. They were all astounded by the beautiful architecture and took many memorable photos.

Every Sunday the Church holds its free crypt tour for anyone who is interested. It is well worth a visit.

If you like architecture, history or churches you must go and see it!!
