An easy 10,000 steps
For those who exercise for the health benefits rather than for the love of the sport, you have days where you may feel less than motivated.
One particular morning, as the sun was rising, I found the motivation to jog at this location by chance in Brisbane, at the UQ campus, St Lucia. There are many car parking spaces along Sir William McGregor's Drive (14 hours parking) and a footpath that meanders alongside the Brisbane river, which is suitable for leisurely walking or jogging.
My dog and I went for a jog along the riverside track as far as the Eleanor Schonell Bridge. We stopped to greet a Schnauzer, who was walking his owner, and then I observed my Fitbit monitor, I had so far completed 7,500 steps.
On the return trip from our jog, we found a cafe for breakfast, St Lucy cafe e Cucina, which is nestled behind a number of UQ Tennis courts. The Birchers muesli looked like a healthy option and smoothies were available too, however, I ordered a soy latte instead. My dog woofed down a dog treat and was enjoying pats from the staff at St Lucy's.
Checking my Fitbit, we had reached 8,999 steps as my Cavoodle and I resumed our jogging at a slower pace. We again followed the riverside track, passing the rowing sheds, groups of joggers, cyclists all the way to the St Lucia residential area.
After a few stretches, my dog and I turned around and walked In the direction of where my car was parked. My Fitbit again flashed a notification, yay! 10,000 steps had been completed. I was impressed, my motivation had returned and that was an easy 10,000 steps along the riverside track along Sir William McGregor Drive, all before 8 am.
