Consisting of a boardwalk winding through a mangrove forest, St Kilda Mangrove Trail provides a good opportunity for walkers to explore one of the more unique environments in the world. To enter the trail, walkers need to leave a $20 deposit at the St Kilda Tackle N Tucker shop along Cockle Street to get an access gate key to the trail. This deposit is refunded when you return the gate key.
The series of boardwalks should be easy for people of most fitness levels to walk but be mindful that they can be wet depending on the tides. The branches of the mangrove trees do jut out into the trail at some points so be sure to pay attention to your surroundings while you walk.

Signs throughout the trail provide information on the plants and animals that make the mangrove their home. These include samphires, crabs, fish and birds. The Interpretive Centre at the start of the trail also provides information on the wildlife that visitors may see. Hut-like structures along the trail serve as bird hides for the more dedicated to try to get a glimpse of the birds living there.

Towards the end of the trail is a lookout tower which has a great view of the mangrove forest and the marina not too far from it. The trail may be subject to closure depending on weather conditions so it is advisable to call ahead to confirm that it is open before heading out.
