It feels like it's been a long time coming after the year we've had, but like the phoenix rising from the ashes, St Kilda Blues Festival returns! That's a FREE weekend of blues music across 20 venues in St Kida with performances from over 40 acts!

Running from April 9: 4pm to April 11: 11.45pm, the lineup includes Andy Baylor, Anna Scionti, Geoff Achison & The Blues Revival Club, Sweet Felicia & The Honeytones, Hugo Race, Charlie Bedford, Kelly Auty Band, Opelousas, Gospel Belles, Ezra Lee, Salty Dawgs Blowout, Jesse Valach & The Testaments, Heinous Hounds, Hoodoo Mayhem Brass Band's Street Swamp parade and more. Keep checking back on their socials and website for program updates, as things could change in a St Kilda minute! It's first in best dressed at the venues, with some taking bookings, but you need to check with the individual venue.

The last image shows you the Gig Guide for George Lane (1 George St, St Kilda). Gigs are FREE, but the venue is taking reservations if you want to secure a spot and enjoy some great food along with your LIVE show. Just give them a call directly on 0431 904 121.

Get involved in the Street Swamp 21' people! It's a street party through St Kilda with Hoodoo Mayhem at 5pm on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday, departing from Acland Street Mall! It's Hoodoo time in St Kilda and they need help with fancy clothes and hip-shakin' moves!

To quote them - "The chaos has been a bit thin these last 12 months, we are bursting at the seams. It would be an absolute blast to do this event with a bunch of Melbourne colourful souls. This type of event is more about community than the actual show. Funky Feather time lets make it great!" Come dressed to impress! It's time to celebrate! FREEEEDOM! Insert image of Mel Gibson in Braveheart! If you are a community group that would like to join, send them a message. If you are a musician or a drummer wanting to have a play, contact them for a heads up on the music they are planning to play. Email or message them - info@hoodoomayhem.com

Musicians, drummers, dancers, street performers, acrobats, videographers, old people, young people, cats, dogs, goats, shenanigators, alligators, humans and politicians are all welcome to join. They need umbrellas, giant feathers, beads, thongs, boots, suits, leather, pleather and good weather. Make it bright and don't be tight. There are no rules. The current plan is to depart from the South end of Acland Street and see where it ends up. A map and/or more refined details will be posted closer to the date.

You'll find the list of venues here. It could be a tough choice with many great bands playing at the same time on the same day. Some of the more popular venues include Abbey Rd, Claypots, The Espy, George Lane, Republica, Vineyard and more. See here to find out what's on, where! Just remember that the program is subject to change! The gig guide will give you the option to download the Gig Planner for those who need/want it.

For three days it's all about the blues and nothing but the blues. See here for the 2021 lineup - updates and new bands added daily! It doesn't quite go from A-Z but you'll find bands A-W on the list like - Charlie Bedford, an 18 year old guitarist/vocalist from Melbourne and an incredible talent, he's played with and been mentored by some of the biggest names in Australian Blues. Anna Scionti, a singer-songwriter, guitarist and bottleneck slide player who mixes it up on cigar box guitar, resonator, lap steel and six-string guitar.

Semi-finalists at the 2020 International Blues Challenge in Memphis TN, Checkerboard are the very essence of a live music experience, breathing fire, virtuosity and improvisation into classic soul and blues originals. The Ezra Lee Trio has all the rumbling boogie-woogie thunder of a runaway freight train and shook the walls of the juke joints, barrelhouses and honkytonks on rock 'n' roll's lost highway and all the way from The Sydney Opera House to the biggest casinos in Las Vegas.

Hoodoo Mayhem Brass Band plays dirty and grooves hard. Heavily seduced by New Orleans funk and brass, it's a horn blowin' beat party as good as they come; so don't forget to join their Swamp Party! Jesse Valach is a fiery Melbourne based blues/soul-infused, reggae/roots-inspired, singer/songwriter, and lead guitarist who has performed alongside some of Australia's biggest names in blues music. There's plenty enough there to whet your appetite. Get out and join the party! This is the only way to hit the Blues!

While The Blues is not my preferred style of music, I welcome the return of any form of live performances.
