What I remember most about France is their amazing range of bread, warm artisan baguettes in particular, as they would place them into a long brown paper bag with half the baguette sticking out. It was the perfect snack to have whilst window shopping and dawdling home. I also loved the pastries, savouries, cakes and desserts, I couldn't get enough of the chocolate eclairs. I'm starting to salivate thinking about all the sweets I indulged in when I was there last. I was very happy to discover a classic French bakery, St Honoré Bakery on Miller Street North Sydney.
On entering the shop you gaze upon the hot selection of sausage and spinach ricotta rolls and a variety of pies including chunky beef burgundy, lamb provencale, chef's choice and even a vegetarian option.
My eyes lingered on the savoury Quiche Lorraine before widening at the selection of pastries. Where to start, there's brioche filled with custard and chocolate, Portuguese tarts, butter croissants, pain au chocolate, almond croissants, raisin, cinnamon and hazelnut scrolls, the delectable apple turnover and a variety of banana loaves.
Did I say my eyes widened at the pastries, well let's say they were about to fall out of their sockets when I saw the variety of tarts, pear, lemon, pecan, sour cherry, caramel hazelnut and the most petite looking cakes. I wanted to try them all at once, the mix berry mousse cake, opera gateaux, New York cheesecake, French pudding, chocolate mousse cakes just to name a few and macarons galore.
Behind the counter is an amazing selection of sourdoughs including plain, dark rye, walnut, olive & rosemary and so many more, baguettes, rolls, ciabatta, focaccia, Turkish bread, campaillou and wholemeal.
St Honoré Bakery is open for breakfast and lunch with a great menu. You can't go past the croque monsieur, an indulgent toasted sourdough with smoked ham and swiss cheese, delicious.
Definitely a piece of France at this bakery with such delicious goodies on display. With my addiction to cakes and pastries, I'll be back tomorrow for some delectable treats to take down to Blue Point Reserve to enjoy the view and my stash.
