This cloud has a silver lining
St Cloud Vietnamese Eating House has just opened its doors in a newly refurbished building located at 644 Burwood Road, Hawthorn East. Just a short walk from Auburn Station, St Cloud is sure to be a great addition to the local food scene.

Set over two levels, St Cloud offers casual dining at lunch and dinner time - with brunches available on the weekends. On the ground floor, there is a bar as well as the main dining room. Upstairs you will find another bar and an outdoor balcony area.
The main dining area is downstairs (dining tables moved aside here for opening night)
We loved the look of the outdoors hanging chairs and casual furniture; this is definitely the place to be on these warmer summer days. We were told there are plans to install a food truck on the balcony, removing the need to trek back downstairs to order food.
The outdoor area on the upper floor offers a relaxed place to have a drink while taking in the view.
The aim of St Cloud is to bring 'honest, healthy and ferociously fresh home-style Vietnamese food to the neighbourhood'. The focus is on locally sourced produce. The menu is '97.7%' gluten free and is vegetarian and vegan friendly.

I'm a fan of Vietnamese food, as it's easy to find tasty, healthy dishes. I love the generous use of herbs and fresh greens. We tried the spring rolls (available in prawn and pork OR turmeric fish, served with herbs, lettuce and nuoc cham - a chilli, lemongrass and lime juice dipping sauce) - $7 (serving of four), and a house 'classic' dish, Banh Khot (turmeric and coconut pancakes, pork belly, shrimp, spring onion oil, herbs, cos and nuoc cham) - $12. These were delicious, and I know we will be making a return visit soon.

The upstairs bar
St Cloud is fully licensed, with a drinks menu that includes a good range of wines, beers and ciders. They also offer cocktails, including some custom designed ones. I will be going back to try the 'Hawthorn Rickshaw' - cucumber infused gin, thai basil and blood orange, lime syrup, soda, frozen cumquats ($15).
St Cloud is open Tuesday to Friday 11.30am til late, Saturday - Sunday 10.00am til late. You can reserve a table online, or call 9882 0146 for bookings and all enquiries.
