Opened in 1867, St Clement's Anglican Church has since undergone numerous enlargements and renovations. A stone vestry was built in 1901 replacing the vestry shed at the back of the church. Electricity was installed in 1918. Following a recent storm, the vestry was damaged and its wall, ceiling, lights and carpets had to be restored. This remediation process was completed just last year. As a nod to its original stonework, part of the vestry was left without render.
The church has retained its beautiful stained glass windows to this day. On one side of the nave are windows depicting St Luke the physician, St Francis and St Clement the church's patron saint. The windows on the other side show Martha and St George. In the sanctuary, you'll find windows with the crucifixion, the Emmaus story and the Holy Ghost.
Nestled between car yards and shops, this little church on the hill can be found at 354 Main North Road in Blair Athol (on the corner of St Clements Street). It was open for the public to visit during South Australia's History Festival. For more information, including other visiting times, head to
