Cooler weather is not enough to stop anyone swimming at
St Clair Beach, Dunedin. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this outdoor salt water pool remains a balmy temperature (28 degrees centigrade) and is a popular spot for all ages to have fun, exercise and keep fit.

After dipping our toes in the icy sea, our family quickly decided that the hot pool would be a much more pleasant swimming experience for us. The kids loved watching seals swimming in the bay, and trying out the paddling pool while the adults managed to swim a few laps of the 25 metre lane-pool. The St Clair Salt Water pool itself was originally built in 1884, and was fully renovated and re-opened for public use, complete with new change facilities in 2001.

This really is the perfect place to take a dip, particularly if you find the ocean temperature unbearably cold. St Clair Hot Salt Water Pool opens during spring, summer and autumn, however the café remains open year round (9am - 5pm). This enclosed café has excellent views across the bay and is a great spot to watch the surfers. They serve hot drinks, soup, snacks, cakes, and ice cream.
