Behind St Agnes Shopping Centre (on North East Rd, St Agnes) is a small park and playground that my children love going to.
It is a square of land, with benches, a drinking fountain and even a table with benches. There is a wide green area for playing ball games, chasey or similar, as well as a playground and a gathering area. As for amenities, the shopping centre is very close by and this offers everything needed (when it is open). It must be said, that the park is generally very tidy; the users of the area use the bins provided and it is rare to find rubbish strewn across the ground.
The gathering area is an interesting construct - a series of tree logs set around a concrete circle on the ground. In the past I have seen impromptu performances there by a local dance troupe, and have also seen a group of students from a local high school using the area as a study corner.
The playground, while not expansive, offers swings, a train-shaped climbing frame, a spider web, see-saw and even some games. Tic-tac-toe has become a family favourite whenever we visit this playground.
My son's favourite, it must be said, is the spider web. He now sets himself a time record to climb up and over it, showing that with a little invention anything can be made that little bit more challenging.
After finishing at the Shopping Centre, this park offers a respite for parents while the children can burn off all that excess energy. Its location and its set up, as well as the benches and tables, makes it perfectly situated to be a parent's best friend, even if for just a little while.
