For many in Petaling Jaya, a visit to is part of everyday life. It's a one-stop shop to pick up fresh produce, flowers, or a bite to eat before work. The bustling wet market opens at 6am and stays busy through to late morning. While the fresh produce is an obvious necessity, it's the food that brings many people down in the morning.

By evening the stalls are covered up and the area looks bare, but in the morning it's a lively throng of people. Set up fresh each morning, the options are frequently changing and rotating. If you're after something to eat a quick pork bun is always a reliable choice, but there's plenty more to choose from. Apam balik is a peanut-filled pancake that comes in two different styles. The first is thin and crispy while the other is thicker almost like a crumpet, both are filled with a paste of ground peanuts and are a good blend of savoury and sweet. Another dish that's worth hunting down is the chee cheong fun . If you're from overseas there's a good chance you've ordered these at your local yum cha place as rice noodle rolls. While they're hard to do badly, there's nothing like watching one made fresh in front of your eyes. Presentation may not be as slick, but the silky meat-filled noodles drowned in seasoned soy sauce tastes even better fresh.

The street side butchers are always interesting to see. If you're used to cling-wrapped meats sold in the grocery aisle it can be a bit confronting, but for many this is where their nightly meal comes from. Presentation is key, and vendors make sure that their produce is well displayed so that shoppers can easily find their desired cuts or pick their preferred bird. If fresh meat isn't your thing you might prefer browsing through the fresh fruits and vegetables or picking up a bunch of colourful flowers.

If you have the time, it's worth coming early in the morning so you can really get a feel for the market from the early minutes to the wind-down. It's one of those places that is bigger than it looks, and with a bit of discovering you'll likely find a new place to eat or something different to discover. Things kick off at 6am, but even if you're not an early riser you should still be able to find something tasty if you're wandering over late morning. The market is open every day of the week.
