https://www.weekendnotes.com/squid-game-season-2-episode-4/ Episode 4 saw the remaining players taking part in a six-legged relay, with 5 different mini-games to be completed in the ridiculously short time limit of 5 minutes. Episode 5 picks up where it left off, with the next two teams stepping up to compete. It's a very tense scene, with all the players, as well as the viewer, anxiously waiting to see if the first team can succeed and at least prove that it can be done. The players aren't competing with each other, only against the game makers, so they are all on one side for once. Unfortunately, the camaraderie all goes out the window later in the episode when they are reminded that the prize money goes up each time someone dies.

The elderly lady, who is in the game with her son shows herself to be tough and resourceful, successfully completing her game of gonggi, which she "used to play with bullets during the Korean war". Kim Jun-Hee, or player 222, the pregnant woman, also dominated in her mini-game of ddakji.

Other players still in the game include Thanos, who was a bit less of a tool in this episode, Hyun-ju (played by Park Sung-hoon from Queen of Tears), a transgender ex-soldier, and 338 (Kang Ha Neul). Episode 5 caused some controversy when 338 referred positively to his father's participation in the Vietnam war leading to a boycott of the series in Vietnam.

Guard 011 is also still around and is threatened by some of the other guards for her actions in the previous episodes. Some viewers may find this scene particularly upsetting since it involves a lone woman being cornered and assaulted by two men, although it did not get quite as dark as I feared it was going to.

So far I am not finding this season quite as compelling as the previous one, but there are still plenty of interesting characters and plot threads to keep track of. There are only 2 episodes to go, so I am starting to doubt that the writers will have been able to wrap everything up satisfactorily in time. We might end up with a cliffhanger to set up the third season, which is due to be released later in 2025. On to episode 6!
