In
episode 2 , Seong Gi-hun went back into the game, equipped with a tracking device hidden in his tooth to enable former police officer, Hwang Jun-ho and his team to find him. As you might have guessed, this doesn't go well. Now back in the game, the poor chap has PTSD out the wazoo, and tries to warn all the other players what will happen to the people who lose, but of course, almost nobody listens to him.
Player 456 be like
Things really get going in this episode, with an extremely tense scene involving the Red Light, Green Light game which will be familiar to viewers of season 1. I'm really trying not to spoil anything, so I'll sum up that scene with the thought that kept going through my head while watching it: “Oh God, not the bees!”

This episode introduces Thanos the rapper, aka Choi Su-bong, or player 230. He is played by actual Korean rapper Choi Seung-hyun, better known by the stage name T.O.P. The game organisers seem to allow a certain amount of contraband to sneak through, presumably because it makes the players more interesting to watch, and in this case, they have allowed 230 to keep an oversized crucifix full of drugs, causing him to behave erratically. He is none too impressed with player 333 (played by Im Si-wan), a former YouTuber whose failed cryptocurrency 230 invested in.

As was revealed at the end of episode 2, Kang No-eul, the former soldier searching for her young daughter, is part of the game not as a contestant but as one of the workers. It's interesting getting to see things from the organisers' perspective a bit more this time around. She is tough, but not quite ruthless, and I will be very interested to see what happens to her as the show goes on.
This episode was titled 001, after the revelation of the identity of player 001 at the end. Last time it was Oh Il-nam, the elderly man who turned out to be the game's creator, so you can probably guess that this player's identity will be significant once again.
Part of the genius of the game is that the players are actually free to stop playing and leave, provided the majority of the group votes to do so. In the first season that even actually happened once. The fact that they have chosen to be here, even after knowing about the risk of death, highlights how desperate, or greedy, or both they are. This time around players are given a patch which indicates which way they voted, which I am guessing will be used to choose teams for the next game. There are seven episodes in this season. On to episode 4!
Squid Game season 2 is currently streaming on Netflix in Australia.
