Squeaky Clean Comedy returns to this year's Melbourne International Comedy Festival with a stellar line-up of comedians and shows across Melbourne. The brings the squeakiest comedy acts together for a night of fun and hilarity! Discover just how funny it can be to go clean with the huggable and cheeky Aaron Pratt; audience favourite Mike Klimczak, critic's darling Mark Trenwith; new to the Squeaky Clean family - versatile performer Hannah Boland; and illustrious Emcee, Michael Connell.
"Squeaky Clean Comedy gave me the laughs but I left without feeling the weight of laughing at something that may have been highly offensive to someone else," writes reviewer Amy Marks. "…it wasn't just squeaky clean comedy. It was genuine, clever, comedy. I had a smile on my face the whole time."Proudly presented by Candlelight Productions, the all-new roadshow will support beyondblue, a not-for-profit organisation which provides vital information and support to everyone in Australia so they can achieve their best possible mental health - including those within the Entertainment Industry.
Research by Victoria University found Australian entertainment industry workers were almost twelve times more likely to experience moderate to severe anxiety, and five times more likely to experience severe depression than other Australians. The report, 'Working in the Australian Entertainment Industry', also found entertainment workers were twice as likely to attempt suicide compared to the general population. "These statistics deeply concern the team at Candlelight Productions," CP spokesperson Kane Lach said. "That's why we're stoked to support beyondblue through the Squeaky Clean Comedy roadshow."
When Candlelight Productions was established in 2001, their core vision was to drastically improve the treatment of artists and workers in the industry. Since then, the team at CP has strived to honour this ethos, and to find meaningful ways to holistically support and encourage industry workers, with a huge emphasis on mental and physical wellbeing.
"Supporting beyondblue will provide us with an opportunity to continue the conversation about mental health, not only within our industry but with our patrons and the general public," CP publicist Hannah Boland said."We look forward to Squeaky Clean Comedy playing a more prominent role in continuing the work to reduce the stigma around mental health issues and connect people to the resources they need to seek help. And if we can achieve all that by producing some of the best clean acts this year's festival has to offer, then we will accomplish everything we have set out to do at the 2018 Melbourne International Comedy Festival!"**Forgo the smut, racism and sexism that can be so prevalent in the live comedy scene and enjoy the much-loved Squeaky Clean Comedy Gala.
