A taste above
On a recent rainy day, lured by our entertainment book discount we ventured up the Crown & Anchor Hotel stairs to dine. We had been regulars at Sprout Dining @ Honeysuckle but were yet to test the waters at the new location.

The decor of the open space has an industrial feel with exposed brick walls, timber flooring and an open kitchen. We were warmly greeted and were asked where we would like to sit as it was not a busy lunch service.

Settling in with a glass of bubbly I found it difficult to choose an entree as I would have enjoyed all six. Saying that, I was very happy with my choice of the kingfish carpaccio, the water grapes and wasabi icecream were taste sensations.

Scallops, blue cheese and zucchini flowers were enjoyed by my other half.

We chose to accompany our mains with a Hunter Semillon, the pork belly dish was particularly tasty, with each element perfectly matched.

I made short work of my veal scallopini wrapped in Serrano ham and should have kept my bread roll to soak up the delicious sauce.

There are no photos of our shared dessert as my husband could not wait to destroy the perfection of the sticky fig, date and almond parfait. Tasting even better than it sounds it was accompanied by salted caramel sauce and pistachio icecream.

Sprout dining has been in this location since July 2015, and also has a lounge bar for cocktails with a view. We will certainly return as we enjoyed the seasonal modern cuisine and laid back atmosphere.
